Alya Elhawary, Senator
Alya currently works as the Advanced Program Manager for Human Spaceflight Exploration at Lockheed Martin, where she leads her team in cutting-edge technologies to send the first woman and next man to the moon.
In previous roles Alya served as a lead in Digital Transformation, a Systems Engineer responsible for lithium-ion satellite batteries and as a Research Scientist working on advanced materials and nanosystems for applications such as water desalination and high-energy systems.
An active member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), she currently serves as a Senator on the SWE Senate and has held roles such as Leadership Coach on the Leadership Coaching Committee and Section President. Her most recent recognition includes the 2019 SWE Distinguished New Engineer award and 2019 SWE New ELiTE award.
Alya has a B.S. in Chemical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from San José State University, and is currently attending University of Colorado Boulder for her MBA.
In her spare time Alya enjoys spending time with her husband, stepdaughter, two cats and two dogs.
